Supervisor Webinar: Helping researchers take control of their careers

In addition to covering activities and tools that can be used to help researchers in their professional development planning, this webinar includes an introduction to the Vitae RDF Planner, which is used by all PLATO PhD researchers in meetings with their supervisors.

The PLATO Supervisor Webinar is run by Jen Reynolds of Vitae.

The webinar is mandatory for all main supervisors and recommended for co-supervisors of the project, but is open also to other supervisors at partner universities.

Helping researchers take control of their careers: activities and tools for professional development planning

Professional development planning (PDP) is a key component of career progression. This webinar is for supervisors and will cover a range of activities and tools that can be used with researchers to help them in their professional development planning.

The session will include an introduction to the Vitae Researcher Development Framework (RDF) and the RDF Planner, along with other tools and activities that supervisors can use with researchers to open dialogue about professional development planning to help them: 

  • manage their own professional development by undertaking a training needs analysis
  • understand how to set objectives 
  • reflect on progress 
  • provide evidence 
  • communicate effectively about professional competencies to a variety of audiences
  • have a supervisory relationship that supports their professional development

Practical

The session is designed to be interactive, asking participants to contribute to the session, either verbally or in writing. It will last for 1-1,5 hours.

The webinar will be recorded and made available for those who cannot attend live.
