Scandic Hotel Holberg

Address: Holbergs plass 1

Participants (except ESRs) will stay at Scandic Hotel Holberg, which is located near the Royal Palace, in proximity to both the Nationaltheateret metro and train station and the airport bus stop (Radisson Blu Scandinavia Hotel). It is also just a short tram/metro ride away from the conference venue Oslo Science Park.

From Oslo Airport (OSL) to Scandic Hotel Holberg

The airport express train (Flytoget) takes you to Nationaltheateret Station in 25 minutes, which is a 5-10 minute walk (600 m) from Scandic Holberg. Note that only trains with destination Drammen, departing every 20 minutes, stop at Nationaltheateret (other trains will not take you all the way, as they stop at Oslo Central Station). Take the station hall exit at the platform to the exit Vika on your right hand side. Outside, walk up the stairs to your right. Cross Henrik Ibsens gate, walk across the Royal Palace Park and follow Holbergs gate until you get to the hotel.

The cost of for a one-way ticket is 180 NOK. Tickets are available at ticket counters and vending machines at the airport, or can be bought online in advance.

The SAS airport express bus (SAS Flybussen) runs every 15 minutes and takes approx. 55 minutes. Take bus #FB2 or #FB5 to the end stop, Scandinavia Hotel, which is located in Holbergs gate, just across the square from Scandic Holberg.

The cost of a one-way ticket is 160 NOK and it is bought on the bus.

Conference venue

Oslo Science Park (Forskningsparken)

Oslo Science Park is located a short walk from the Forskningsparken tram and metro stop: follow the signs to Forskningsparken.

Tram: The easiest way to get to the conference venue from Scandic Holberg is by tram from the stop Holbergs plass, which is located right outside the hotel. Take the tram #17 Rikshospitalet to Forskningsparken (9 stops).

Metro: Walk down to Nationaltheateret metro station (5-10 min) and take westbound lines #4 Vestli/Ringen or #5 Sognsvann to Forskningsparken (3 stops).

From Oslo Airport (OSL) to Oslo Science Park

If you are arriving directly from the airport to the conference, take the airport express train (Flytoget) - leaving every 10 minutes. Get off at Oslo Central Station (22 min). Note that all trains, also those with destination Drammen, stop here. Take the metro (T-bane) westbound lines #4 Ringen via Majorstuen or #5 Sognsvann to Forskningsparken (5 stops)


Brasserie Blanche

Address: Josefinesgate 23

The dinner on Thursday will be held at Brasserie Blanche, which is within walking distance of Scandic Holberg and Cochs Pensjonat.

Joint departure from the conference venue at 18:00, by tram from Forskningsparken to Bislett on line #17.

If you would rather like to walk, it would take 30-40 minutes.

Public transportation and tickets

All public transportation in Oslo is operated by Ruter. The cost of a single ticket (zone 1) is 33 NOK.

  • App: We recommend that you get the Ruter app, where you can easily buy tickets and pay with a visa/mastercard. For more information about the app, visit Ruter
  • Card/paper: Tickets can be bought in most kiosks (for example Narvesen, Deli de Luca, Mix and 7/11) or on vending machines. Note that you will have to activate/validate the card on the station or on the tram
  • Note that you cannot buy tickets on board the metro or tram, and that not all stations have vending machines

Travel and reimbursements

The hotel including breakfast will be paid directly by ARENA for all partners. Please settle any extras upon check-out.

Training partners: the project will cover economy flight tickets to Oslo as well as local travel (to/from airports, hotels and conference locations). ARENA will refund the costs after the event, upon receipt of a reimbursement form with original tickets/receipts.

University partners: all travel costs (flights and local travel) are to be covered by your institution's local project budget (Institutional Unit Costs).
